It’s official: Betty White will host NBC’s Saturday Night Live on May 8, WNBC News announced Thursday morning.
Besides featuring the Golden Girl, who was the subject of a Facebook campaign to get her the gig, the special Mother’s Day episode will also reunite six former female SNL cast members, most of whom happen to be moms: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch.
In April 2008, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Sarah Silverman—dressed as the three graces of comedy—picked up Christopher Hitchens’s gauntlet to prove that, yes, women are funny. As the aughties give way to the teens, VF.com asks you to vote for the magazine’s 10 best covers of the decade, one for each year. Today, pick your favorite among the 12 covers of 2008.
Parks and Recreation will always be Knope Knows’ focus. However, from time to time I’ll slip in some noteworthy Saturday Night Live news.
Congratulations to Amy Poehler’s buddy, Tina Fey, for winning Outstanding Guest Actress, Comedy for her spot-on impersonation of Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live last season. Tina was awarded the prize at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmys.
When she collected her trophy, Tina gave a shout-out to her parents, who are lifelong Republicans:
They thought the first four [Palin] sketches were very funny and the last two, enough already.
Justin Timberlake also picked up a statuette for his own work on SNL. His win in the Outstanding Guest Actor, Comedy category marked the first time an SNL host has won the prize.
Comedian Kathy Griffin hosted the nearly four-hour ceremony. A shorter version of the event will air on E! Friday at 1 p.m. EDT.

Reporter Randee Dawn doesn’t speak to any Parks and Recreation people, but does interview Paul Lieberstein from The Office, as well as 30 Rock’s Tina Fey and Two and a Half Men’s Chuck Lorre.
In a new book, 113 Things to Do by 13, 30 Rock star Tina Fey discusses a prank she pulled on Amy Poehler.
Says Tina:
I did a really funny prank where I got my assistant to paint all the cars in Amy’s neighborhood a ‘washable’ white so that she would wake up and think it was snowing.
In a webcam chat, Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil advises Amy Poehler to ruthlessly fight her friend, Tina Fey, for a Best Comedy Actress Emmy.
And Amy is having none of it.
Also in the interview, Amy learns what first season episode she should submit to Emmy judges if she nabs a nomination. And she seems to appreciate the advice.
the addition of six new episodes of “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday” skewering today’s top stories in live half-hour primetime shows.
Thought this would be of interest to Amy Poehler fans, considering she anchored the Weekend Update desk for five of her eight seasons on Saturday Night Live.
The New York Times reports that NBC will announce to advertisers Monday that Weekend Update will be brought to the network’s primetime schedule — most likely on Thursday nights — for at least six to as many as 13 half-hour episodes.
In the weeks leading up to 2008’s Presidential Election, NBC produced several highly rated special editions of Update in primetime. This is the first time, however, that Update specials will be a weekly part of NBC’s schedule.
Like on SNL, Seth Meyers will anchor the desk. Though this doesn’t mean NBC won’t invite former anchors Amy and Tina Fey to guest star.
OK, hypothetically if you’re going on a mission to, say, catch a guilty whale. And while you were catching the whale, you saw something else that may also be another whale, and you were like, “What?” But then you thought, “Maybe it’s not a whale. Maybe it’s a big fish, maybe it’s a submarine with a face painted on it.” The point is if I kill the first whale, am I technically a murderer?
Though Knope Knows is and will continue to be an ad-free site for Parks and Recreation fans, we have embedded a donation button through PayPal by which readers can help defray the cost of site operations. And, of course, any remaining balance will go towards prize contests and other fun stuff. Thanks!
