Paste magazine says Tom Haverford is one of TV’s funniest characters

Friday, February 12th, 2010

From Paste:

Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) on Parks and Recreation
Leslie Knope’s (Amy Poehler) assistant, self identifies as a “redneck” South Carolinian, despite his Indian heritage (his birth name was Darwish Sabir Ismael Gani). He is a grade A creeper when it comes to the ladies, but remains just charming enough to be endearing.

“Justin is hip. Pawnee is the opposite of hip. People in this town are just now getting into Nirvana. I don’t have the heart to tell them what’s gonna happen to Kurt Cobain in 1994.”

Here’s the full list:

10. Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) on Parks and Recreation
9. Hugo “Hurley” Reyes on Lost
8. Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) on Glee
7. Abed Nadir (Danny Pudi) on Community
6. Dwight (Rainn Wilson) on The Office
5. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) on The Big Bang Theory
4. Charlie Kelly (Charlie Day) on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
3. Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) on How I Met Your Mother
2. Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) on Modern Family
1. Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) on 30 Rock

Aziz Ansari secures a spot in Paste magazine’s best comedians of 2000-2009

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Paste magazine published a top-ten list of the best comedians of the decade. At #10 is Aziz Ansari.

Here’s Aziz’s blurb:

With a cultishly popular MTV show (Human Giant), a flourishing stand-up career, a scene-stealing turn in Judd Apatow’s Funny People, and a blog he actually posts on regularly, it’s only fitting that twentysomething comic Aziz Ansari make our list. Whether he’s hanging with idol Kanye West or bloodying up Ted Leo as “Clell Tickle: Indie Marketing Guru,” Ansari stays connected to the music world while taking us all on the highway to the comedy zone. And watch out, entertainment journos; Ansari recently started writing articles for the likes of Interview. Besides, who else can lay claim to literally being the A to Z of comedy?

Congrats, Aziz!

The complete list:

  1. Dave Chappelle
  2. Zach Galifianakis
  3. Patton Oswalt
  4. Chris Rock
  5. David Cross
  6. Sarah Silverman
  7. Ricky Gervais
  8. Eugene Mirman
  9. Mitch Hedberg
  10. Aziz Ansari
