Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have bought the rights to Frenemy of the State, a graphic novel miniseries created by Rashida Jones. Rashida will co-write the adaptation with scribe Will McCormack.
In an interview with Variety, Rashida talks about the story’s lead character, who is a young heiress who works undercover for the CIA:
She has lived a life of privilege, attended the best schools and learned every language, but her obsession with spying on exes gets her into trouble and she is recruited to be a spy in exchange for not going to prison. There is a comic element to it, this girl who is so conscious of social standing and wearing the right shoes, suddenly becoming responsible for these dangerous, life-threatening missions.

The Hollywood Reporter says Rashida Jones signed on to star in Monogamy, an indie romantic comedy penned by Evan Wiener and Murderball co-director Dana Adam Shapiro. Opposite her will be emerging actor Chris Messina (Away We Go).
The young couple’s relationship and its trials will be the film’s focus. It’s expected to reach the movie festival circuit by early 2010.

Amy Poehler is attached to star in Universal’s Lunch Lady, based on the upcoming children’s graphic novel series by writer-illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka. The story is about a school cafeteria server who moonlights as an investigator.
Due out this summer are Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians and Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute. Another book will be released this December, and a fourth next summer.
