EXCLUSIVE: Composer shares suggested opening title music with Knope Knows

UPDATED!

Professional film composer Erez Henya sent Knope Knows two opening title music cues he created for Parks and Recreation.

Says Henya:

The show’s producers had given film and television composers like myself 48 hours to come up with musical starting points for the show’s opening titles cue, and that is what I came up with!

I did a profound research on the show and gave myself about half a day to “feel” it as well as its characters, then I set to compose it in my professional studio. One of the things I wanted to do, I wanted it to sound very patriotic and “American” – conveying Leslie’s dream of being the first female president of the United States. The musical supervisors wanted something very catchy that can turn out to be quite funny when combined with the images, yet have a good potential of being popular as a cellphone ringtone and so on, so that’s what I did!

The first demo (see demo #1) is pretty classical and timeless, which I thought would work well in both occasions. In case the producers would ask for a lighter version, I toned it down a little in a second rearrangement (see demo #2), which combines a cool, non-orchestral percussive introduction, then I brought the main theme to the less classical-sounding horns, etc.

I should mention, they eventually weren’t elected by the producers.
