In its annual list of the Best TV of 2009, Parks and Recreation and The office tied for #2!
From New York magazine:
The two mockumentaries are fascinating mirrors: One is about a bumptious male boss who dreams only of family, the other is about a bumptious female boss who aspires to be president. Both weave cringe comedy with humanistic sweetness, and while Parks and Recreation found its voice this season — especially in the case of Amy Poehler’s earnest clown — The Office also hit some brilliant notes, especially whenever it delved into the sick lunacy of the economic breakdown.
Parks and Recreation will always be Knope Knows’ focus. However, from time to time I’ll slip in some noteworthy Office news.
According to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello, Ricky Gervais — creator of the original British Office — will host next year’s Golden Globes. Cheers!
Around this time last year, Office fan Adrian Hickman organized some viewing parties with NBC to coincide with the season five premiere — titled “Weight Loss” — of The Office.
This year, he says he’s working with NBC’s affiliate in Philadelphia to try to do it again — at least in Philly. He also plans to include the premiere of Parks and Recreation.
Here’s an exclusive note sent to Knope Knows from Adrian:
I need to know an approximate number for the party, so that I can set the reservation. Location will be in the King Of Prussia area, looking at Bahama Breeze, Champs, Dave And Busters, or Facenda Whitaker Lanes as some options. This area is easy to get to from just above anywhere: 15 minutes from Philly, about 90 from Central PA, 30 from Delaware and Jersey.
The cost is simply the cost of your meals and activities — whatever you choose to do.
I also need a head count if you are going to the NBC 10! SHOW in Philly that morning. This is a live audience show and they usually give something out to the audience.
We can sight see in Philly, and do stupid tourist stuff like RIDE THE DUCKS. We can also shop the amazing King Of Prussia Mall. This is open to anyone, and I hope to see you there.
Here’s a video report that aired on NBC 10 last year:

NBC Universal signed a licensing deal with Hallmark, which includes the use of the media company’s film and TV content like The Office, 30 Rock and Battlestar Galactica.
The article doesn’t specifically mention Parks and Recreation, though the show is a production of NBC Universal and is likely a part of the deal.

The fifth season of NBC’s The Office, available to own September 8, will be released on DVD as well as on Blu-ray discs. The show joins Battlestar Galactica and Heroes as the only TV shows released in that format by Universal.
The Paley Center voted Seinfeld’s “yada, yada, yada” as TV’s all-time top phrase. Other Seinfeld entries include “Hello, Newman” at No. 50 and “No soup for you!” at No. 21.
Even The Office got a little love at No. 12 with “That’s what she said.”
Results were broadcast on NBC Tuesday evening in a special titled, TV’s 50 Funniest Phrases.
OK, hypothetically if you’re going on a mission to, say, catch a guilty whale. And while you were catching the whale, you saw something else that may also be another whale, and you were like, “What?” But then you thought, “Maybe it’s not a whale. Maybe it’s a big fish, maybe it’s a submarine with a face painted on it.” The point is if I kill the first whale, am I technically a murderer?
Though Knope Knows is and will continue to be an ad-free site for Parks and Recreation fans, we have embedded a donation button through PayPal by which readers can help defray the cost of site operations. And, of course, any remaining balance will go towards prize contests and other fun stuff. Thanks!
