The New York Observer predicts a Best Actress win for Amy Poehler at the Emmys

Monday, July 12th, 2010

From The New York Observer:

The beloved Parks and Recreation could only muster two nominations — one for star Amy Poehler and one for best theme song. And while it does have a great theme song, expect Poehler to take home the one Parks trophy that will matter. There is history here: America Ferrara, Tina Fey and last year’s winner, Toni Collette, were first time nominees on rookie-ish shows who won (Parks and Rec had a six-episode season one), and in all cases their victories seemed like a “shock.” If Poehler were to win, people would certainly be surprised, but her work on Parks and Recreation — turning her character from a one-note Michael Scott clone into a layered, well-meaning and original human being — deserves as many accolades as possible.

Critics’ dream Emmy nominations

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Before Emmy nominations are announced on July 8, the editors of TV Squad weighed in on who they think should earn nominations.

Here’s what they said:

  • Three editors picked Parks and Recreation for Best Comedy. (Andy: ‘Modern Family’ will probably win the Emmy, but my favorite comedy of the season was the supremely underrated ‘Parks and Recreation,’ which deserves to take the crown from the struggling ‘30 Rock.’)
  • Three editors picked Amy Poehler for Best Comedy Actress.
  • Three editors picked Nick Offerman for Best Comedy Supporting Actor. (Joel: Offerman should be nominated for his mustache alone, much less his great performance as Ron F—in’ Swanson.)
  • One editor picked Chris Pratt for Best Comedy Supporting Actor. (Andy: The ‘Modern Family’ men are all deserving in their own rights, as are the men from ‘Parks.’ Again, how do you choose?)

Here’s what they had to say about her:

Poehler’s ability was never an issue on “Parks and Recreation,” but it wasn’t until the show got a handle on her character between seasons that she could realize her full potential as the earnestly plucky Leslie Knope. Now, there might be no more appealing half-hour comedy lead performer on the air.
