It may be March, but news outlets are already placing their bets on the front-runners for Best Comedy at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards, slated to air September 20 on CBS. Nominations will be announced on July 16.
Due to Parks and Recreation’s poor early test results from audiences, the comedy earned a Long Shot spot on Los Angeles Times’ Awards Insider list alongside Better Off Ted (ABC), The Sarah Silverman Program (Comedy Central) and Worst Week (CBS).
L.A. Times listed 14 Front-runners, including Scrubs (ABC) and NBC flagships The Office (which won in 2006) and 30 Rock (which won in 2007 and 2008).
Even so, L.A. Times noted that Parks and Recreation should not be counted out this early in the game:
If “Parks” rallies, beware: This race (plus best comedy actress) could turn into a fierce cat fight between those “Saturday Night Live” divas Poehler and Tina Fey (”30 Rock”)! Meow!
